Obituary

John Henry Newell, Sr. departed his earthly life on December 16, 2018 at his daughter’s home in Arlington Texas. He confessed his life to Christ at an early age. He was preceded in death by his lovely wife Francis Annette Newell; stepson Kevin Eakins; two sisters: Virginia James and Dinah “Donna” Kay Murray; two brothers: Grady and Gene - Burnette “Gino” Murray.

John “PaPa” was born to the late John Henry Jenkins and Mattie Bell Murray on May 20, 1939 in Jackson, Mississippi.

John was a faithful and active member of Greater Outreach Missionary Baptist Church. He pursued a closer walk with God by regularly attending Sunday School and he was a faithful member of the Brotherhood Ministry.

John was a free-spirited person with a great sense of humor. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother and friend. He enjoyed spending quality time with his family and helping anyone that crossed his path.

He leaves to cherish his fond memories: his loving daughter Shellene Newell Audu (Ambrose) of Arlington, TX; two sons Gary Newell Sr. of Houston, TX and John Henry Newell Jr. of Baton Rouge, LA; one stepson Gregory C. I would like to express my deepest condolences to the family of John Newell over the death of your dear loved one. During this most difficult time, may you find comfort and peace in the words of our loving heavenly Father at Psalm 34:18: "He is close to the brokenhearted; He saves those who are crushed in spirit." He promises to "swallow up death forever, and ... will wipe away the tears from all faces." (Isaiah 25:8) God invites you to "throw all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you." (1 Peter 5:7)
